Secrets of A Perfect Cup of Coffee

We value our coffee and our customers at The Coffee Critic®. Therefore, we feel it necessary to mention these storage and brewing pointers that will ensure your cup of coffee is of the highest quality.

Storage

Your coffee should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, preferably in whole bean form. It is important not to store your coffee next to strong-smelling odors, i.e. garlic or onions, as coffee will pick up odors from other foods.

Whole bean coffee, stored in an airtight container, will maintain freshness for approximately 14 days, and ground coffee for 5 days.

Brewing

When brewing your coffee, use only fresh, cold water. Remember, water represents 98% of the finished cup, so you might want to consider using a water filter or bottled water to enhance your cup of coffee.

Grind coffee according to your needs. Too fine a grind will cause a bitter taste or clog your brewing device; too coarse a grind will make your coffee taste weak.
Use two tablespoons of coffee for every six fluid ounces of water. With flavored coffees use a little more coffee.

Temperature is an essential element in brewing coffee. The water should be between 195 and 205 degrees Fahrenheit. If your cup appears to be lacking "taste", it might well be your brewing device or the temperature of the water.

Once your coffee has been brewed to your specifications, maintain the flavor and heat of your coffee by storing it in an airpot or thermal carafe.

Please feel free to consult with us on any of these points. We hope that these "pointers" will allow you to serve and enjoy a consistently fresh cup of The Coffee Critic ® coffee.
